Shearer, Elva Jean – 89, The Falls (Tatamagouche), passed away May 27, 2014 in the Amherst Hospital. Born in Earltown, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Freda (MacNutt-Hirtle-Langille) Hirtle. Elva was a homemaker and mother who stayed at home to raise her family and was active in the community as a member of the Christmas Club and a member for more than fifty years of Freedom No. 62, Rebekah Lodge in Tatamagouche. surviving are her children, Anne (Stearns) MacRae, Cold Lake , Alberta; Alice (Ed) Flannery, The Falls; Ken (Elizabeth) Shearer; Stony Plain, Alberta; grandchildren, Cheryl, Dennis, Bill, Thomas, Edwin, Emmie, Tracy, Tammy, Kristopher, Kelly and Julie; 25 great grandchildren; 1 great great-granddaughter; sister, Marlene Langille, Salmon River; brothers, Bill (Dorothy) Hirtle, North River; Elroy (Barb) Langille, North River; Sterling Langille, Earltown; nephew, Murray Wall, with whom she lived for the past six years; several other nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her husband, Baxter S. Shearer (2002); sisters, Freda MacBurnie, Phyllis Stevenson and Caroline MacGill; brother, Ivan Langille. Freedom Rebekah Lodge will conduct a tribute service at 6:30 p.m. today in Coulter’s Funeral Home, Tatamagouche (657-3288) with visitation from 7 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 30, which would have been Elva’s ninetieth birthday, also in the funeral home. Interment will be in Tatamagouche Mountain Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank you to nephew, Murray Wall for all his care and support to Elva and also Dr. Moss, Dr. Wallace, Dr. Shore and the doctors and nurses in the palliative care ward at the Amherst hospital for their care during Elva’s stay there.
