Daniel Graham Gouthro

Born In: Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Canada

Passed in: Scotchtown, Canada
Passed on: May 30th, 2014

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Daniel Gouthro, 73, of Scotchtown on May 30, 2014, at home.
Born in Kirkland Lake, Ont., he was a son of the late Daniel Graham and Willena (Currie) Gouthro.
'Danny Boy' was a retired miner who enjoyed giving back to his community. He was a board member with the New Waterford Credit Union and spent several years as a volunteer firefighter for the Scotchtown Fire Department. Dan spent many hours working on union matters with his collegues during his years at Ford Motor Company, Sydney Steel and informally at Devco.
He was a proud poppie who loved watching his grandchildren grow up, from playing at the playground, to cheering them on at basketball games. Dad enjoyed the outdoors, chatting on his veranda with his neighbours in Scotchtown and just 'shooting the breeze' with passersby. He was noted for his dry sense of humor and quick wit. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends especially by Chloe and Matthew.
Surviving are his wife Colina (MacNeil); daughters Noelle (Neil) Baldwin, New Waterford, Kara (Tim) Murgatroyd, Halifax; brother John David 'Butch' (Donna) MacDonald, Lingan; sisters Honor (George) Van, Marion Bridge, Betty Ann (Robert) MacKinnon, Portage; grandchildren Chloe and Matthew; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Danny was predeceased by two brothers Michael 'Buddy' and Bobbie, and one sister, Laura.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will be held Wednesday, June 4 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Plummer Avenue, New Waterford.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
