It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Carl David Bernard on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at home.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, on Dec. 29, 1958, he was a son of Julena Bernard, and the late Edward MacKenzie.
He received an electronic course in Boston and recently completed a pre-employment course in We’koqma’q. He loved fishing and hunting and was very proud of his boat, Kimberly/Kevin. His motto in life was “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”.
Surviving are sisters, Ducy (Bob), Nicoleta, Mona, Gina (Maynard) Poulette and Madonna, all of We’koqma’q; Brenda (John) Googoo, Eskasoni; Paulina (Vincent) Boudreau, Tammy and Patricia MacKenzie, all of Indian Brook First Nation; brothers, Alan (Juliana), John Wayne, Peter (Stephanie) and John Allan, all of We’koqma’q; Chris Sack, Indian Brook First Nation; godchildren, Charlene (Cyrus), Bianca, Sevenjij, all of We’koqma’q; many nieces and nephews; grandnieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by maternal grandparents who raised him as a son, Charles and Annie M. (Sylliboy) Bernard; paternal grandparents, George and Mary A. (Lewis) MacKenzie; godparents, Noel and Alice Sylliboy; brothers, Brian Sack, Colin MacKenzie, Frederick, Lunch, Walter and Chuckie Bernard.
Sacred Fire will be lit. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today in the Multi Purpose Building, 160 Reservation Rd., We’koqma’q. Funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday from Blessed Kateri Parish Holy Trinity Church, We’koqma’q, with Fr. Paul Abbass officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh.
