CROSBY- Reta Mae (nee Bain) With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear mother, Reta Mae Crosby (nee Bain) on June 7,2014 at her home on the Richmond Road, Yarmouth County. She was surrounded by her family and slipped away peacefully. Born in Wellington, Yarmouth County in 1921, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Alice (Trask) Bain. Her family was most important to her and she had a way of making each of us feel like her favourite. She enjoyed her flower gardens and greenhouse full of tomatoes and cucumbers. Learning to cook at an early age while working as a housekeeper for families prepared her for making delicious meals for her family, friends and many hired hands on the farm. Somehow she still made time for pickling preserves, knitting and quilting. Surviving are her daughters Audrey (Larry) Pennell, Brenton; Esther (Bruce) MacCormack, Ontario; Donna (Rod) MacLennan, Truro; Lorna (Patrick) Dempsey, Richmond Road; sister, Hazel Pitman and brother Alester (Mary) Bain all of the Meadows Home for Special Care and sister-in-law Isabelle Crosby, Ontario, 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Donald, brother Raymond Bain, and infant son and daughter. Visitation was held Monday June 9, from 7:00-9:00pm at Sweenys Funeral Home, Yarmouth. A funeral service was held at 2:00pm Tuesday June 10, 2014 in New Life Church, Pastor Larry Pennell officiated. Interment was in Port Maitland-Beaver River Cemetery. Reception followed at Audrey and Larry Pennell’s residence in Brenton. Donations in memory may be made to New Life Church, Yarmouth/Argyle Home Support or to the Tri County VON.
