Shelagh Wand

WAND, SHELAGH MARIE - Shelagh Marie Wand (née Maloney), beloved wife of Donald John Wand, died peacefully at home in the loving company of her family on June 7th, 2014. Shelagh is survived by her husband Donald, children Kelly and Jonathan, granddaughter Zoe, brother James Maloney, and sister-in-law Betty. She will also be dearly missed by her many Maloney/Howard cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends. Shelagh remained a staunch Maritimer even after living for 45 years in Oak Bay, B.C., with a great love for telling stories accompanied by hearty laughter. She established lifelong friendships while growing up in Moncton, N.B., and working at Trans-Canada Air Lines in Halifax. She is warmly remembered for bringing people together and helping build a better community. Shelagh made people feel welcome to the neighborhood, energetically volunteered for the Willows School PTA and the CWL at St. Patrick’s Parish, and maintained a long-time membership with the Saanich Sommeliers. In addition to volunteering and devotedly raising a family, she was always keen for a game of bridge, until her memory began to fail in the latter years of her life. Shelagh spent many happy summers at Seabreeze Lodge on Hornby Island with family and friends from Victoria, Vancouver, and Vernon. She also enjoyed trotting the world with Don at her side. The family would like to express our deepest appreciation to our friends and neighbors, with special thanks to Claudia Krohn for her exceptional care and help. With everyone’s support, Shelagh lived comfortably at home during her final years.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated in memory of Shelagh on Wednesday, June 18th, at 12:10, at St. Patrick’s Parish, 2060 Haultain Street, Victoria, BC, with a reception at the church following the service. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, 20 Eglinton Ave W #1600, Toronto, ON M4R 1K8 or the Victoria Hospice & Palliative Care Foundation, 4th Floor, Richmond Pavilion, 1952 Bay Street, Victoria, BC V8R 1J8. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com.
