Joseph Rich

RICH, DR. JOSEPH HARRY - Born in 1929 in the old Moncton Hospital, Harry passed away peacefully at home. He was the son of the late Harry Rich and Mary Rich (McHugh) of Moncton . He is survived by his wife Rose Marie (Moorcroft) of Boudreau West, sisters Catherine Kearney of Toronto and Margaret Roy of Moncton, and brother Peter Rich of Langley B.C. He was predeceased by his brother John of Brantford, Ontario. Other surviving relatives include step daughter Angelina Delmar (Paul) of Ladner B.C. and step son Rodney Foreman of Moncton N.B., sisters-in law Marilyn Dryden (late Don) of McKee’s Mills and Vienna Hall (Ed) of Woodstock, NB, and brothers in law Herb Moorcroft (Muriel) ,Malcolm Barrett (late Cora), all from Woodstock, NB. He graduated from St. F.X. University in 1950 with a BSc. and received his medical degree after interning from Dalhousie University in 1956. He then did general practice in the town of Oromocto for two years. In 1958 he returned to residency training in General Surgery at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal and a year spent in England studying surgery. After completing Royal College exams he returned to start specialty practice in General Surgery in January 1963 at the Moncton Hospital and the Hotel Dieu Hospital . He retired from practice at the end of 1990 after twenty eight years in Moncton as a General Surgeon. He served time as president of the Medical staff and as Chief of Surgery at the Moncton Hospital . He represented the NB Medical Society on the Canadian Medical Association Health Care Committee. He was made a senior member of the Canadian Medical Association in 1995. He was president of the Phi Chi Medical fraternity during his days at Dalhousie. He was an enthusiastic sailor and campaigned his yacht in numerous sailboat races in Northumberland Straight and once at the Marblehead race from Marblehead Mass. to Halifax N.S. Summer vacations always included a sailing trip to the Bras Dor Lakes. Following retirement golfing and photography were his main recreational interests with winters in Florida.
