June 7, 1949 - June 14, 2014
My beautiful partner in life, Carol Upton, passed away peacefully on the evening of June 14, 2014 at Shorncliffe Hospice, after a long and challenging struggle with cancer. She is missed greatly by myself and Luna and Lucy, and many friends and family. She has gone to join her mother, father and other loved family and friends and pets.
Carol was always an advocate for social justice and a free thinker. She was brave in her convictions for change and incurred the anger of officials when she would protest by action or by writing of the injustices she witnessed around her.
Carol helped many people out in her life, especially through her work in transition houses in North Vancouver and the Sunshine Coast. She helped start the second stage transition house, Thyme, in Sechelt and was involved in bringing awareness and education about domestic violence to different sectors of the community, especially to youth in high schools.
In later years she tirelessly worked to help animals and those who were helping animals' welfare. She started her own promotion business for authors who wrote primarily about animals, Dreams Aloud Animal Book Buzz being her business Facebook page which was very successful.
Her passing leaves a great hole in many hearts as the earth has lost a true angel. Her spirit will always be with us and we can honour Carol by speaking up against injustice when we see it and speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves.
