MIDDLETON, VERA - It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Vera Ileen (nee Ayles) Middleton, 90, of Petitcodiac and formerly of Anagance on June 18, 2014. Born in Saint John, NB, she was the wife of the late Vernon Middleton and the chosen daughter to the late Gordon and Bessie (nee Graves) Ayles. Vera was an avid quilter and knitter and enjoyed playing cards and bingo. She was a life member of the Women’s Institute and a member of the Monday Morning Merry Makers. Vera was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #41, where she served as a lifetime member and former President of the Ladies Auxilliary. She spent over 25 years volunteering her time at the coat check for Legion Events, and would spend her time knitting items such as socks and mittens at the counter for anyone who needed. She leaves behind her daughters: Fay Mullins (Richard) of Moncton, Norma Galloway of Riverview, Elaine Marr (Arthur) of Sussex and Diane Carson (Chris) of Fredericton; her sons: Leigh (Marlene) of Sussex, Leslie (Margot) of Synton, Reid (Cheryl) of Quispamsis and Darcy of Moncton; 19 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Besides her parents and husband, Vera was predeceased by her daughter Marilyn Pitre, her son Russell Middleton and her grandson Jason Middleton.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of Armstrong’s Funeral Home, 33 Russell Street, Petitcodiac, from where visitation will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm. A Legion Tribute Service will be held at 5:45pm. The funeral service will be held at Armstrong’s Funeral Home on Friday, June 20, 2014 at 3:00pm with Pastor Linda Harper presiding. The interment will take place in the Anagance cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ladies Auxilliary Branch #41 or to the Anagance Cemetery would be appreciated by the family.
