ATKINSON, Mary Lena, passed away Monday, June 16, 2014 in Yarmouth Hospital, after a brave battle with cancer. She was born in Ingomar, N.S. on September 26, 1943, the second daughter of Nelson and Freda (Cook) Perry. Lena leaves behind her son, Glen, Yarmouth; daughter, Lana, son-in-law Kenny, granddaughter, Faith Richardson, Brass Hill; daughter Darlene (Steve), MD, USA; her unofficial children, Rondell, Kristina, Chasity and Jessica, who will remember her with great fondness. Lena also will be missed by her sisters, Phyllis Losier, Brass Hill, Linda Huntley, Clark’s Harbour, Myrtice Trask (Mike), Clark’s Harbour, and brother, Dougie (Cindy), Sable River. Her best friend, Sonya Sears, Clark’s Harbour, will feel her loss as they have shared a friendship for many years. There are also many cousins, nephews and nieces near and far to mourn her passing. Lena is predeceased by both parents. She was a fine cook, loved planting and caring for her flowers, especially her pride and joy, her lovely pink peony. She loved to laugh and joke and enjoyed getting funny cards, especially naughty ones. We will all miss her but will keep her memory in our hearts until we’ll be all together once more. Lena has donated her body to the Dalhousie Medical Science facility. There will be no service by request. Donations can be made to any charity.
