PLAYER, RICHARD FRANCIS - 1938-2014 - Richard Player of Riverview passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the Moncton Hospital. Born in Cape Vincent, New York to Frank Platts Player and Lorraine (Gault) Player, Rick moved with his family to Canada at a young age and grew up in Toronto, Ontario. He then joined the military and was proud to serve his country, serving tours of duty in both Cyprus and Egypt. He was an ordained United Pentecostal Minister for over 20 years and pastored various churches throughout New Brunswick. Up until his recent illness he worked part time for the Corps of Commissionaires as a By-Law Enforcement Officer for the City of Moncton. Rick enjoyed hunting and salmon fishing on the Miramichi but in his later years spent his spare time at the Miramichi Boat and Yacht Club where he cruised the river in his boat, "The River Rat" and socialized with his friends at the Club. Rick leaves to mourn the love of his life, his wife, Debbie Hathaway; sons, Wayne (Martha) and Mark (Regena); daughters, Carla (Ron) Haley and Lori (Tony) Price; cherished grandchildren, Jeanette, Derek, Jonathan, Nadine, Gina, Brent, Brittany, Mitchell and Hanna; and several great-grandchildren. He also leaves to mourn his brothers, Jack (Ruth), Ron (Jeannie) and Jim; sister-in-law, Lorrie; and his extended family, Tim and Donna Burke, Maurice Richard and May Watt. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother, Dennis; half-brother, William Chilvers; and sister-in-law, Gail. We celebrate his life and cherish the knowledge that he lives on in his sons, Wayne and Mark and that he is held always in the heart of his wife, Debbie.
Visitation will take place at Cobb's Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Road, Riverview, NB (869-2007) on Sunday, June 29, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.
