
Michael Francis Dicks
Passed on: June 27th, 2014
(August 10, 1929- June 27, 2014) Passed peacefully away at St Clare's Mercy Hospital in the presence of his loving family, Michael Francis (Mike) Dicks, formerly of Tides Point, Burin Newfoundland. He was predeceased by his son Leon Michael in 2001 and also by parents John and Madeline Dicks (nee Doody) and his brother Joseph. Leaving to mourn are his loving wife of 59 years Ellen Theresa (Nellie) (nee Aylward), daughters Gail Dicks-O'Keefe (Ted), Lorraine Dicks (Ben Davis), son John (Gaye Anthony) and daughter-in-law Mitchie Ann Dicks. Also known as "Poppy" to Elliot and Adrian Dicks, Michael and Laura O'Keefe, Katie, Maddie and Claire Davis and Emma Dicks. His grandchildren were the light of his life and he continued to inspire them until the very end. Also leaving to mourn are his sisters Irene Pearcey (Charlie), Bernadette Hoadley, Marguerite Hammond (Ron), Mary Power (Greg), Ada Casey (Gladys Sharpe). Brothers Dominic (Patricia) and John (Jeanette Yetman) and sister-in-law Alice Dicks, as well as a very large circle of cherished nieces, nephews and lifelong friends and neighbours. Mike was a graduate of St. Bonaventure's College and enjoyed a long professional career as the Manager of the Newfoundland Egg Marketing Board. After retiring he became an expert woodworker and took great pride in creating unique gifts for his family.
Mike was a man of great honour, dignity, fairness and generosity. He will be immensely missed by all who were close to him. His kindness touched many people in different ways and after meeting him, you immediately realized that he was someone special; always putting the needs of others ahead of his own. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the ICU and 7 East Staff at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital where his final days were made comfortable after a short illness. Sincere thanks also to Drs. Brendan Barrett, Nigel Duguid and Peter Seviour for their expert care over the years. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, Lemarchant Road, St. John's. Visitation on Sunday, June 29 from 7-9 PM and Monday June 30 from 2-5 PM. Memorial Mass to take place at St. Teresa's Church, Mundy Pond Road on Tuesday, July 1 at 11 AM. Inurnment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Dad, you will be forever in our hearts, guiding us through life with the lessons you taught us! Donations in Mike's memory may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Teresa's Parish, Mundy Pond Road.
