CORMIER, LAURIER “CORKY” - Laurier "Corky" Cormier, 81, of Villa Providence, Shédiac, formerly of Galaxy Drive, Moncton, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC. Born on June 11, 1933 in Moncton, he was the son of the late Charles and Edna (LeBlanc) Cormier. Prior to his retirement, Laurier worked for Unemployment Insurance Canada. In his youth, he was a junior and senior baseball player having played for the Lewisville Junior Keefe Cubs and the Moncton Senior Schooners. He was inducted to the New Brunswick Hall of Fame, the City Wall of Fame and Baseball New Brunswick. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Claudette (Melanson); three children: Patricia Cormier and Denise Nowlan (Daryell), both of Moncton, and Marc (Linda) of Fredericton; six grandchildren: Katia, Sabrina, Meghan, Hannah, Joshua and Jacob; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four step-sisters: Nellie Boudreau, May Beaumont, Marjorie Boudreau and Rita Morel.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) from where the funeral service will be celebrated on Monday, July 7, 2014 at 10:30 am. Visiting hours are Sunday from 7 to 9 pm only. A reception will follow at the centre. In memory of Corky, a contribution to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
