Passed away surrounded by loving family on June 28, 2014 at age 49. Duane's lengthy Cancer battle was nothing short of a valiant crusader fight whose determination, perseverance, strength and dignity knew no bounds. Predeceased by father, Denis McCarthy, and mother, Rose McCarthy, brother, Robert, niece, Melissa Thorne and father in-law Melvin Smith. Leaving to mourn his devoted partner of 29 years Kelly McCarthy and daddy's only little girl, Charlene McCarthy. Sisters Doreen Thorne (David) Bellevue; Trudy Power (Art) Mount Pearl; Pauline Power (Ron), Sunnyside; Debbie Ranger (Tony Soro), West Kelowna, brothers: Larry, West Kelowna, Gordon (Jackie), Bellevue; Derrick (Marie), Bellevue; Tom Peters (Navi),Ont., Mother in-law Carol (nee Whitten) who lovingly gave her time and support to Duane on an ongoing basis over the years, sister in-law Wanda Smith (Roger Roberts), and brother in-law Stephen Smith (Julie Abbott) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, numerous cherished friends and acquaintances including special friends Larry and Natalie Crann, Sergie and Natalia Morozov. Mac and Judy Blundon and Jerome Mackey. Thanks very much to all who supported Duane throughout his illness with visits, calls, messages, and numerous kind gestures. Much gratitude is extended to the exceptional staff 4NB of the Health Science Centre for your compassionate care over the years and to Dr. Jehan Siddiqui and medical associates at the Murphy Bliss Cancer Clinic for all their intervention. Our family's deepest appreciation to the extended list of medical doctors and their teams for their care: Drs. Paul Heneghan, Alex Mathisen, Joanne Bishop, Stephen MacDonald, Carmen Gacicomantonio, Douglas Drover, Terri Stuckless, Gurdev Parmar, Kathleen Mercer, Mark Rosenberg, Emergency room teams and Community Health teams as well as Drs. Bill Eaton, Daulton, Kennedy, Fardy and staff of the Palliative Care Unit. Kind appreciation and a multitude of thanks to the staff of Holy Trinity High School and numerous friends, neighbors and acquaintances for the amazing support we have received. Cremation has taken place.
