Margaret Matson

MATSON, MARGARET - Margaret C. Matson, 94, of Fundy Royal Manor II, Hillsborough and formerly of People’s Park Tower, Moncton, with her loving family by her side, passed away peacefully at her residence on Sunday, July 6, 2014. Born in Moncton, she was the daughter of the late James and Hattie (Weldon) Steeves. A faithful member of First Baptist Moncton, having served as a Sunday school teacher, worked as a social convenor, played in the Senior Hand Bell Choir and was a member of the Zella Clarke Missionary group for many years. An avid bridge player, she also enjoyed needlework, knitting, quilting, reading, sewing and always had an open and welcome home for her family and friends. Margaret and Bert enjoyed travelling, having visited the Queen Charlotte Islands, England, Scotland and Ireland and Germany to see where the Steeves family originated, as well as to the Eastern United States. They also enjoyed socializing and entertaining and had many years of fellowship with friends and family. Margaret will be sadly missed by her daughter, Isabelle Smith (Daniel) of Claresholm, AB and son, John Matson of Colpitts Settlement; precious grandchildren, Catherine Smith, Ian Smith (Chris), Colin Matson (Jen), Sean Matson and Kathleen Archibald (Jeff); ten cherished great-grandchildren; brother, Dale Steeves of Fredericton and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Albert (Bert) Matson (1996); brothers, David, Robert and Douglas; sister, Emma.
Margaret’s remains have been cremated under the care of Fergusons Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service for Margaret will be held from Fergusons Funeral Home Chapel, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995), on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 10:00 am, with Rev. Delbert Bannister officiating. Reception to follow in the Funeral Home Reception Centre. Interment Wesleyan Union Cemetery, Upper Coverdale, NB.
