We the family of Winston John Hiscock, announce with heartfelt sorrow, his passing on July 7, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Palliative Care unit, surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Born in South Bar on Jan. 6, 1941, he was the son of the late Joseph and Bridget (MacNeil) Hiscock.
Winston was a member of Calvin United Church. He had a passion for life, was a wonderful Dad, loved the outdoors, biking, skating, dancing, music, camping and campfires in Catalone with friends. Winston and Florence spent the past six years wintering in Florida where they made several good friends. Winston was a prankster by nature and loved a good joke.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 53 years Florence (LeDrew); daughters, Charlene Wilton (Ed), Brenda (Rey) Andico, Wanda Hiscock; son Winston Hiscock (Shelia); sisters, Jenny Mercer, Delores Hardy; sisters-in-law, Beverly (Mike) White, Marilyn LeDrew and several nieces and nephews. Grandfather will be greatly missed by his nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Holly (Justin), Laura, Steven and Adam Wilton, Bradley and Amanda Hiscock, Winston and Roman Degiobbi and five great-grandchildren whom he all cherished, Emma, Avaeh, and Paige Hiscock, Autumn Degiobbi and Wilton Kavanaugh.
Besides his parents, Winston is predeceased by sister Josie (Pat) Duffney, brothers, Lloyd and Wilfred, brothers-in-law, Jim Mercer, Harold Hardy, father and mother-in-law Albert and Eva LeDrew, brothers in-law, Jerry and Whitney LeDrew, sister in-law Deanna Longphee, and his little buddy Buttons.
Visitation for Winston will be held on July 9 from 6-9 p.m. and a funeral service will be held on July 10 at 11 a.m. in Calvin United Church with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Burial will take place in Union Grove Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the church, Smith Street, New Waterford. All are welcome.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Winston’s memory can be made to the An Cala, Palliative Care Unit at the CBRH.
