It is with great sadness that the family of the late Walter McWhirter announce his passing surrounded by his loving family at his family residence on Monday July 7, 2014 at the age of 90 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 65 years Jean (nee Thomas); children: Randy (Alice) McWhirter, Gail (Andy) Rideout, Rhonda Davis (Leo Greene), Rhody (Patti) McWhirter; grandchildren: Jason (Kim) Davis, Cory (Cindy) Rideout, Shannon (Jenn) Davis, Chad (Erin) Rideout, Shyama Mcwhirter, Kayla McWhirter, Kylie McWhirter; great grandchildren: Noah, Carter, Regan, Caleb, Reese, Chloe, Shelby, Ty, Kieran, Kia; brothers and sisters: Gord (Bette) McWhirter, Eileen (Joe) Griffin, Doug (Kay) McWhirter, also a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Peter & Susan McWhirter; son-in-law Bruce Davis, sisters Minnie McWhirter, Mame Byrne, Gertrude Lidstone, and brother Francis McWhirter. Walt was an engineer with the Newfoundland Railway for 48 years. He enjoyed gardening and he was known by his grandkids as “Poppy Walter.” He was a real sports fanatic. He dearly loved his wfie Jean and his family, and spending time with them came at the top of his list. A special thank you to his grandson Jason who was there for him at every beckon call without any hesitation, and for all the love shown over the years by his wife, children and grandchildren. Friends may visit Country Haven Funeral Home, 167 Country Road on Wednesday and Thursday between the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will take place on Friday July 11, 2014 at 2 pm, from the Humber United Church officiated by Reverend Clayton Parsons. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy flowers are graciously accepted or donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. The family guest book may be signed by visiting our website at www.country-haven.ca.
