ROBICHAUD, EDGAR JOSEPH “ROB” - With deepest sadness, the family wishes to announce the passing of Edgar “Rob” Joseph Robichaud, 64, at The Moncton hospital on July 17, 2014 after a hard fought private battle with cancer. Rob was the President and CEO of the Greater Moncton International Airport and a retired RCAF Lieutenant Colonel with 32 years’ service. Born in Moncton, he was the son of Anne (Horsman) Robichaud of Moncton. In addition to his mother, he will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 44 years, Frances “Fran” (McCarthy); children James of Bathurst, Patricia of Riverview and Michael (Kimberly) of Ottawa ON; cherished grandchildren, Chloe, Kyler, Brianna, Camron, Eaden, Tyler, Addison and Jake; brother Dan (Judy) of Shediac; mother-in-law Gert McCarthy, brothers-in-law Bill McCarthy (Nancy) and Ken MacQuarrie (Anne Marie). Rob joined the RCN in 1967, surviving the HMCS Kootenay explosion in 1969, the worst Canadian peacetime naval disaster. He received his pilot wings in 1976, attended the Command & Staff College, commanded 403 Helicopter Operational Training Squadron at CFB Gagetown and served with NORAD. He retired in 1997, but continued serving as NB Liaison Officer in Canada’s Reserve Force until 2001. In 1998 he became the President / CEO of the Greater Moncton International Airport. He served on several boards and councils such as Canadian Airports Council, the Canada East Air Cargo Gateway Group, TIANB, the Southern NB Gateway Council, Moncton Rotary Club, past President of Atlantic Canada Airports Association, Friends of the Moncton Hospital and co-chair of the new Moncton Transportation Discovery centre. He so loved his grandkids, spending as much time as he could with them, being involved in their lives as much as possible, along with reading history and riding his motorcycle.
Visitation at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Rd, Moncton (858-1995) on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral Mass at St Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church on Friday, July 25, 2014 at 10:00 am, with Rev. Allison Carroll officiating. Reception in the Parish Hall following the Mass.
