Ralph Sheldon Fletcher

Ralph Sheldon Fletcher – 68 of Valley, Colchester County – It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ralph, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend on July 18, 2014 at home after a fourteen month courageous but brave battle with colon cancer. He went very peacefully with his family by his side. Born June 26, 1946, in Truro, he was the youngest child of the late Chester and Irene (Grant) Fletcher of Montrose. He worked at Fosco Roofing for 35 years and retired in 2001. He loved Nascar and was an avid fan of the #3 car driven by the late Dale Earnhardt Senior and the #88 car of Dale Junior. Ralph loved the outdoors and found peace in the woods. He also enjoyed 4 wheeling with his loving wife Barb and many trips also with his friend Bim Faulkner.
Ralph is survived by his wife of 29 years, Barb (Lynds); son, Darrin (Joanne) , Economy; daughter, Annette (Grant) Sprague, Mount Uniacke; loving grandchildren, Connor, Cal, Wilson, Aliya and Harrison Sprague; sisters, Eva Wallace, Etobicoke, Ontario; Helen (Roy) Collier, Bedford; brothers-in-law, George Linkletter, Lower Five Islands, Joe Rector, Central Onslow, and nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Inez Moore, Hazel Linkletter, Marion Rector; brothers, Everett Fletcher, Lloyd Fletcher; sister-in-law, June Fletcher; brothers-in-law, Charles Moore, Bud Wallace and Frank (Sonny) Smith.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Ralph’s family will receive friends and family from 7-9 p.m., Monday, July 21st, and from where the funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 22nd. Live webcast will commence at 2 p.m. Rev. Donna Lawrence will officiate with a reception to follow in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Baptist Cemetery, Bass River. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Ralph’s memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Palliative Care Unit of C.E.H.H.C, Truro or the V.O.N. Thanks to Dr. Mark Doreen, QEII Cancer Centre and Nurse Lynn, special thanks to Dr. Trevor Locke, who Ralph thought the world of, Palliative Care Nurse Lisa, V.O.N., EHS and a big thank you to Dr. Henderson and Dr. Smith.
