Lorna (MacLennan) Moffatt

Born In: Sydney

Passed in: Hammonds Plains
Passed on: July 22nd, 2014

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Lorna Claire (MacLennan) Moffatt, on July 22, 2014, in White Hills Long Term Care Centre, Hammonds Plains, N.S.
Lorna was born and raised in Sydney, the only daughter of the late John Alexander 'AJ' and Catherine (MacDonald) MacLennan. A graduate of Sydney Academy and Mount Allison University, Lorna continued her education at the Maritime School of Social Work. Until her marriage in 1947, she worked for the Department of Welfare.
She was a member of Trinity and St. Andrew’s United Churches and an active member of the UCW (United Church Women).
Lorna’s first priority was her family. She was happiest when they gathered at “Grandma’s Cottage”. She was fortunate to have lifelong friendships, good neighbours and a bridge club of over 60 years. Lorna was an avid traveler, who enjoyed many trips all over the world. She will be remembered for her love of family and strength in difficult situations.
Lorna is survived by her children, John, Tottenham, Ont.; Cathy, Halifax; Heather Edstrom, Halifax; Gordon (Kate), St. John’s, Nfld.; Ruth Anne (Alan Dickson), Singapore and Donald (Sybil), Germany; grandchildren, Heather (Jason Peyman), Carolyn and Kevin Reardon; Sarah, Hannah, Will and Grant Moffatt; Rebecca and Alexander Dickson; Clare, Laura, Ben and Robin Moffatt and great-grandson, Easton Blakeney. She is also survived by her loving brother, Dr. Donald F. MacLennan (Peggy), Powell River, B.C., and their family.
Lorna was predeceased by her husband, William Gordon Moffatt, in 1975; daughter-in-law, Betty MacLeod Moffatt; son-in-law, Gerry Edstrom; and granddaughter, Emily Dickson.
The family wishes to thank the staff at White Hills for their care and dedication. We express special appreciation to Roxanna and Francis 'Tis', caregivers in Sydney.
There will be no visitation; a private family service is planned. Condolences may be sent to LornaMoffatt@outlook.com.
