Passed peacefully away after a long and brave battle at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital on Wednesday, July 23, 2014, Calvin L. Vardy, aged 69 years. Calvin was a former Principal of Bishop's College, retired Assistant Superintendent of the Avalon Consolidated School Board and taught at Keyin College during his retirement years. Predeceased by his parents Len and Ethel Vardy. Leaving to mourn his beloved wife Marie (nee Hodder); daughter Veronica (Doug Saunders); son Ian; adored grandchildren: Gregory and Mason Saunders; brother Gerry (Sandy); sister Cathy (Eugene Murphy); brothers-in-law: Ron Hodder (Stevie), Jim Hodder (Carolyn), Dan Hodder (Joanne) and sister-in-law Yvonne Dawe (Jack); also a large number of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Thursday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm and then on Friday from 12noon-4pm. Funeral service to be held from Wesley United Church on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with private family interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
