Dr. Lloyd Albert Probert
September 10, 1921 – August 2, 2014
On August 2, 2014, in his 92nd year, our father died peacefully in the Craik and District Care Home. We are forever indebted to the compassion and caring offered by the staff at Craik. Lloyd was born in Moose Jaw September 10, 1921 to Fred and Ethel Probert (nee Hewitt) and raised with his siblings Ken, Ruth, Kay (Campbell), Sylvia (Munroe), Glenys (Leibel), and Don, and is survived by Sylvia. Lloyd attended Central Collegiate in Moose Jaw. He earned his medical degree at the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Toronto, then set up a general practice in Craik. In 1948 he returned to the University of Toronto to complete a medical residency in Ophthalmology. In 1952 he returned to Moose Jaw where he carried on his practice until 1997. He was predeceased by his wives Lilian, Shirley, and Coralie, and by his sons Ken and Mike. He is survived by his children, Bruce (Kathy), Lilian (Glen) Traquair, Nadine Probert (Jim MacLaurin), Derwin (Judy), daughter-in-law Michelle; his grandchildren Ian (Becky), Michael (Hazel McLachlan) and Mark MacLaurin, Derek and Adrianna Traquair, and Tyler Probert, and by great-grandchildren Kyle and Erin; and by Coralie’s daughters Louanne and Micheline. Lloyd enjoyed time spent at the family cabin at Buffalo Pound Lake. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and a supporter of Ducks Unlimited. Lloyd excelled at sports and was inducted into the U of S Sports Wall of Fame as a multi-sport athlete. He remained physically active well into his late 80’s. Lloyd was an active member of the community, and a long-time member of the Lions Club. We will remember our father for his unconditional love of family, and his advocacy for physical and mental health through a balanced lifestyle, and instilling in us the value of education and the importance of family and friends. A Celebration of Lloyd’s life will be held at W.J.Jones & Son Chapel on Friday August 8, 2014 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to CNIB, 2550 Broad Street, Regina, S4P 9Z9, would be appreciated. In living memory of Lloyd, a memorial planting will be made by W.J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. Please sign the memorial register at website: www.wjjonesandson.com (Obituaries).
