Eileen Holmlund

Eileen Holmlund

Eileen Shirley Holmlund (nee Piller) was born on the family farm near Neudorf, Saskatchewan on April 23, 1935. She spent most of her childhood in Melville, where she grew up loving music, flowers, animals and sports. She moved to Regina in 1955 to take a job at Minneapolis Moline, where she met a handsome young man from Strongfield named Glenn Holmlund. They were married in 1956 and settled in Moose Jaw, where they raised their children Leslie and Glenda Lee. Eileen was an accomplished bowler who competed at national championships for many years. She also coached youth bowlers, who shared her passion and enthusiasm for bowling and grew to love her so much they affectionately referred to her as Mom. She played baseball and loved golfing at Crooked Lake. Eileen was amazingly creative and throughout her life, loved to make things including crafts, afghans, oil paintings, and hand-painted sweatshirts which she sold at craft shows. She loved music, performing in the family band at a young age, and even recorded a 78 RPM duet of “You Are My Sunshine” with her friend Gladys Mohr. Dementia had begun to rob her of some memories in recent years, but anything that touched her heart – family, pets, her beloved cabin at the lake – all remained dear to her. Eileen passed away on August 5, 2014 after a brief illness. She is predeceased by her father and mother, Frank and Carolina Piller, her brother Norm Piller, and her grandson Adam Cox. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband Glenn, son Leslie (Anna), daughter Glenda Lee Cox (Larry), grandson Max Zasada (Maria), grandson Charlie Holmlund, great-granddaughter Amelia Zasada, nieces and nephews and in-laws, and her beloved cat Rusty. A tribute to her life will be held at a later date. The family sends thanks to the compassionate doctors and nurses at Moose Jaw Union Hospital Surgery Unit. Arrangements are entrusted to Parkview Funeral Chapel, Moose Jaw. Blair & Kelly Scott, Funeral Directors. (306) 694-5500.
