Bessie Elva Barker (Wilcox)
Bessie Elva Barker (nee Wilcox) was born on September 11, 1922 in the McKague District, SK. She passed away peacefully on July 29, 2014 at the Prairie View Health Centre in Mankota, SK, at the age of 91 years. Bessie is survived by her son, Ken (Wendy), six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bessie was predeceased by; her husband, George, son, Richard, parents, Edwin and Mary Wilcox, one brother and two sisters.Bessie and George were married on October 26, 1943, in Regina, SK. After George returned from the war they bought a farm southwest of Mankota, SK and started their life together. They had two children, Richard and Kenneth. Bessie and George farmed until 1976, when they retired to Kincaid, SK.
George passed away on October 24, 2004. Bessie moved to Swift Current, SK. in 2005. There she began to collect brass as a hobby, and grew her collection to over a thousand pieces before her health started to fail. She moved to Prairie View Health Centre in Mankota, SK in June of 2014 and resided there until her passing.
Bessie will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her family and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Cypress Regional Hospital and Prairie View Health Centre for the love and compassion showed during Bessie’s stay.
Service of Remembrance was held on Friday, August 8, 2014 at the Mankota Community Hall. Reverend Mathias Ross officiated. Music Ministry was led by the Mankota Community Choir accompanied by Bessie’s niece, Betty Barager. Interment followed at the Mankota Cemetery, Mankota, SK.
