DONOVAN, ROBERT WILLIAM - May 21, 1935 - August 6, 2014 - It is with heavy hearts and sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad, Robert William Donovan of Canterbury and Skiff Lake, NB. Dad was born May 21, 1935. He went home to heaven on Wednesday, August 6th surrounded by his family. Bob is survived by his ex-wife Maxine (Keilty) McGrattan, six children: Winnie (Myron) of Calgary, AB, Joan of Woodstock, Juctice of Cochrane, AB, Susan of Fredericton, Maria of Canterbury, and Michael (Tina) of The Marne, and grandchildren: Kathryn, Ryan, Aidan, Sara, Julia, Madison, Brodie, Justice, and Mikey, a niece Ann Marie (Dubasz) Brown of Olds, AB., and a nephew, Robert Dubasz of Uxbridge, ON., many cousins. He is predeceased by his parents Lewis and Marie Donovan of Canterbury and Skiff Lake, and his sister Winnie (Donovan) Dubasz. His family and many friends will miss him. Bob Donovan loved his community. He was proprietor of a General Mercantile, Wm. Donovan and Sons, was former member of the Canterbury Fire Department and Knights of Columbus, and served as Fire Chief, Mayor, and District Coroner. Many families will remember our Dad as a very generous Secret Santa. He was an avid patron of the York Regional Library Bookmobile. Dad loved family dinners, loved the lake, and listening to the loons. He was deeply loved and will be sadly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canterbury Fire Department for the Jaws of Life equipment would be appreciated.
Visitation on Saturday, August 9, 2014 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at 2198 Route 122, Skiff Lake, NB. Funeral services to be held on Monday, August 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Thomas Church, Canterbury, NB with interment to follow at St. Thomas Cemetery, Canterbury. Father Godwin Kalu officiating.
