The Ponds - Maude Almira (Arbuckle) MacEachern, age 94, passed away August 8, 2014 in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow. Born in The Ponds, Pictou County, she was a daughter of the late Francis and Roberta (Patton) Arbuckle and the last surviving member of her immediate family. Maude was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Merigomish, where she served as an elder for many years. She was a lifetime member of the AMS, board of managers and the various ladies groups. Maude worked hard in the early years, she was employed with the Lismore Lobster Factory as well as knitting headings for traps, mittens and socks. Maude worked as a cook at Camp Geddie for 25 years where she was lovingly know as, Mrs Mac', by campers and staff. One of the things she enjoyed throughout her life was picking wild strawberries, raspberries and blueberries and preserving their jam. An avid quilter, she enjoyed quilting at home and with the ladies of the church. She was predeceased by her husband, John Angus “Jack” MacEachern, her daughter, Almira Lively, grandson, Laurie Lively, five sisters: Lillian Clattenburg, Christina Beaver, Elizabeth Moore, Frances McGirr and Beulah MacKinnon. Surviving are 4 daughters and 2 sons: Catherine (Francis) MacDonald, The Ponds; Sheila (late Duncan) MacDonald, Abbotsford, B.C.; Audrey (Graham) Dearn, Dorval, Quebec; Sharon (late Frank) Slobodian, Surrey, B.C.; Angus (Mabel), Lower Sackville; Robert, The Ponds; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; son-in-law, Doug Lively; brother-in-law, Ross Moore. The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff of Glen Haven Manor for the loving care provided to our mother. Visitation 2-4 and 6-8 pm Tuesday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral to be held at 11 am Wednesday from St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Merigomish, with Rev. Bonnie Wynn officiating. Burial in Murray’s Point Cemetery.
