Robert 'Bobby' Doucette

Passed in: Sydney
Passed on: August 9th, 2014

It is with profound sorrow that the family of Bobby Doucette announce Bobby’s sudden passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at the age of 60 years.
Bobby was the son of Jackie (Shea) Doucette and the late Gerald Doucette. He was born in Neil’s Harbour and was a member of St. Peter’s parish, Ingonish Beach. Although Bobby lived in Sydney, he spent as much time as possible in Ingonish. He was the oldest of 11 children, and he believed this to be a worthy title.
Bobby lived a rich and full life. He graduated from St. F.X. University in 1974 with a BBA. During the last several years Bobby worked as a realtor for Century 21. Over the years he operated several businesses in the Ingonish area, including the beach canteen where he became famous for his “Bobby fries and Bobby burgers.” Earlier in his career, Bobby was an event planner and worked on many large projects, including the G7 Summit, the Pope’s visit to Nova Scotia, and the John Cabot anniversary celebration in Northern Cape Breton. Bobby lived several years in Ottawa, and worked as an assistant to the Honourable Allan J. MacEachen, and had many “Ottawa friends.”
Bobby had many passions. From early childhood, he loved to sing and particularly liked the music from the 60s and 70s. He was in his element when he belted out the songs of The Mamas and The Papas, while accompanied by his friends and relatives.
Throughout his life, Bobby diligently worked on many committees and projects in the community. He was passionate in his views and visions for Cape Breton, and expressed them in many forums. He was a loyal friend, and had many loyal friends including the family pets. Sissy and Rosie, affectionately known as “the girls.”
Bobby is survived by sisters, Jeri (Bucko Hussey), Beverly (Derrick) Hawley, Denise (Keith) Hawley, Jacqueline Morrissey (Graham Whent), Tracey (Michael Murphy), all from Ingonish and Pauline (Bob) Purcell, Halifax.
Bobby is survived by brothers, Frank (Denise), Stephen (Lisa MacDougall), Andy (Darlene) and Michael (Anne Hepditch), all from Ingonish and by special aunt, Betty (Cyril) MacDow, Sydney, who was raised like a sister.
Bobby leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. He loved them all dearly and always supported them in their endeavors and celebrated their successes. He was a true uncle and wore that hat proudly.
Bobby also leaves behind many cousins, aunts and uncles. His extended family was very dear to him.
Bobby was predeceased by his father, Gerald Brien Doucette, his maternal grandparents, Tom and Bridget (Dunphy) Shea and his paternal grandparents, Leo and Ivy (O’Brien) Doucette; his cousin, Brian Doucette, and niece, Nicole Doucette.
Visitation for Bobby Doucette will be held on Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, from 6-8 p.m., and Saturday from 9-11 a.m. in St. Peter’s Church, Ingonish Beach. A celebration of his life will take place Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Peter’s Church, with Fr. Lazarus Guria officiating. A reception will be held in the Smokey Recreational Centre, Ingonish Beach (rink), following the mass. Donations in Bobby’s memory may be made to St. Peter’s Parish Graveyard, Ingonish Beach, N.S., B0C 1L0, or to a charity of choice,
