We regret to announce the death of Denise MacDonald of Grand Lake Road, who died Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, as the result of a motorcycle accident near Truro.
Born in Glace Bay, Denise was the daughter of the late Dennis and Sarah Deveaux.
After graduation from Saint Michael High School, she married and started her family with her husband Glenn. She worked at Vogue Optical in Sydney as a licensed optician and was also the office administrator for Dr. Mike Driscoll, her boss and friend.
For the past 16 months Denise, with Glenn's support, dedicated her life to working on the rehabilitation for their son Jonathan who was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident.
Due in large part to her devotion and patience, Jonathan has made remarkable progress on his road to recovery.
Denise always put her family first and divided her leisure time with many activities including, taekwondo, belly dancing and motorcycling with her friends in the Saddlebag Riding Club.
As a supporter of the Lighthouse Church she volunteered on a humanitarian trip to the Dominican Republic.
She always tried to help and heal those she met.
Denise is survived by her loving husband of 34 years Glenn; sons, Philip (Katie), Glace Bay, Jonathan at home; and daughter Heather (Steve), Miramichi, N.B. She is also survived by grandchildren, Evan, Alex and Pierce MacDonald along with brothers, Alonzo, Glace Bay, David (Sharon), Calgary; sister and special friend Laraine Penny and of course Tiggy her loving cat.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother-in-law Allie Penney and sister-in-law Sharon Deveaux.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Aug. 14 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexander St., Sydney from 2:30-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Theresa Church with a reception to follow at St. Theresa's Hall.
Cremation will take place with interment to follow at Resurrection cemetary at a later date.

Heaven has gained an angel but we have lost one on Earth. Denise had a lust for life and was always there with a helping hand to help and heal those she met.
She will be missed.
