BARNES, BARBARA - Barbara (nee Alcorn-Poole) Barnes of Pointe du Chene passed away peacefully at The Dr. George L. Dumont University Hospital Centre on Monday, August 11th, 2014, at the age of 90. Born in Halifax, NS, September 13th, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Carrie (Rose) Poole. Barbara is survived by her children; Theodore “Ted” (Kathy) Alcorn and Cheryl (Greg) Nickerson, grandchildren; Carissa (Brian) Bagnell, Sarah (Sean) Roche, William “Willie” Alcorn, Chelsea (Ronnie Carr) Nickerson, Jessica Nickerson. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren; Ciaran Bagnell, Ewan Bagnell, Kai Nickerson-Carr and her nieces in Scotland Linda and Louise. Aside from her parents, Barbara is predeceased by her first husband of 21 years Vincent Alcorn, her second husband Harold Barnes of 9 years, brother Robert (Renee) Poole of Scotland and infant granddaughter baby Allison Alcorn. Barbara was involved with the Trinity United UCW in Shediac, she also was employed at Woolworth’s for 25 years. Some of her favorite pastimes were her gardening, knitting and baking.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at Fair Haven Funeral Home on Friday, August 15, 2014 at 1:00 pm. Interment will take place in Fair Haven Memorial Gardens. Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
