McCABE ,JOHN “JACK” M. - 1920 - 2014 - Jack McCabe, 94, of Moncton, passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on Thursday, August 14, 2014. Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Major) McCabe. Jack was a retired Postal Clerk with Canada Post with 33 years’ service. He attended St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church and formerly St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church. Jack was a Veteran of WWII having served overseas in Continental Europe from 1939 – 1945 with the 8th Field Battery of the Royal Canadian Army and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #6. He loved the outdoors, taking long walks and spending time at his camp in Elgin. Jack will be sadly missed by his daughter, Gloria Mallais (Albert) of Fredericton; sons, Andrew (Jeannine) of Dieppe and David (Darlene) of Pine Glen; precious grandchildren, Tammy, Dale, Christopher, John, Jamie, Tracey and Jason; cherished great grandchildren, Jacob, Carter, Ryan, Delaney, Tyla, Keahan and Emma; several nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy K. (Fowlie) McCabe (2008); sisters, Agnes, Edith, Margaret, Marie and Katherine; brothers, Robert and Harold.
A Funeral Mass celebrating Jack’s life will be held at St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church on Monday, August 18, 2014 at 11:00 am with Rev. Allison Carroll officiating. Reception in the Church Hall following the Mass. Interment Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Sunset Village for the wonderful care given to Dad over the last 3 ½ years. A special thanks to the Palliative Care Unit at The Moncton Hospital for the excellent care given to Jack during his last days.
