Albert Leonard 'Snuff' Copan - 84, Scotchtown
It is with deep sorrow that we, the family, announce the passing of Albert Leonard Copan, 84, of Scotchtown, on Aug. 15, 2014 at New Waterford Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Gus and Elizabeth (Jacobi) Copan.
Albert was a member of the former St. Michael Church in River Ryan, currently the Parish Church of St. Leonard. He was a coal miner for 40 years until his retirement. Albert enjoyed playing guitar, listening to country music, dancing, traveling and mingling with people.
Surviving are his longtime companion, Sally Durando; daughter Sharon Copan (Bill); son, Kevin, both of New Waterford; only granddaughter, Chrita Copan Rutherford (Nathan), Barrie, Ont.; several nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Besides his parents, Albert was predeceased by his wife Florence (Morrisson); brothers Louie, Alphonse, and Raymond; sisters Madeleine, Irma and Eleanor.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will be held Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 2 p.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, River Ryan, with a luncheon to follow at the Army, Navy, Airforce, Unit 217, New Waterford.
