EDNA 'AURORA' JOHNSTON

EDNA 'AURORA' JOHNSTON

Edna 'Aurora' Johnston, 87 - Sydney River

Aurora Johnston passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Sunday, August 17, 2014.
Born in Louisbourg on August 29, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Edna (Horton) Barss.
In 1934 she moved to Sydney where she graduated from Sydney Academy.
Aurora was a life time member of the UCW of the United Protestant Church of Sydney River and in her younger years was an avid badminton player. She
loved to sew, knit, bake and was a caregiver to anyone who needed it. Her biggest joy was spoiling her grandchildren and she always wished her great-grandchildren lived closer so she could spoil them, too.
She is survived by her daughter, Edna Denny (Brent), Sydney; son, Glenn (Halifax) and his two best friends, dogs, Gilbert and Rudy, who she referred to as “the boys”; grandsons, David Denny (Jennie), Bedford and Brian Denny (Alison), Calgary; great-grandchildren, Julianna, Georgia, Lillian and Theo.
Also survived by her brother, Sedley Barss (Ann), Chester Basin, and many nieces and nephews.
Aurora was predeceased by her husband, Norman (1990); brother, Walter Barss; sisters, Shirley (MacDonald), Alaire (Kerr) and Frances (MacLean).
Special thanks to the nursing staff of units 3A, 4C and palliative care of the CBDHA for your patience and kindness over the last few months.
A memorial service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, August 27 at 4 p.m., with Rev. Michael Kaye officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to palliative care or charity of choice.
Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
