O’BRIEN, DOROTHY “DOT” - With sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Dorothy O’Brien, 88 of Halifax on August 19, 2014 at Veteran’s Memorial Hospital, Halifax. Born in Edmunston, NB to Emile and Yvonne Charron. She was a devoted wife to Walter (predeceased) for 50 years, as well as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She always enjoyed music, playing the clarinet and organ, and had been in the Royal Canadian Army Band in 1945-46 and served overseas. She loved spending time with family; her garden and baking, especially trademark pies for family and charities.
She was a long standing parishioner of St. Lawrence, then St. Pius X and then Saint Benedicts Parish. She is survived by her two sons, Paul (Linda) of Halifax and Donald (Marise) of New Maryland, NB; brother, Bea Charron of Edmunston, NB; sister, Reneilde (Charron) Ethier of Sorel, Que; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Daryle, Shannon, Erin and Nicholas; as well as seven great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. Predeceased by her husband, Walter, son, Patrick and granddaughter Andree as well as several siblings. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of 3 West, Veteran’s Memorial Hospital where Dorothy resided for the past 3.5 years. The kindness and affection shown to her by staff will always be remembered.
