John Hugh Cooke

Born In: Weston
Born: December 28th, 1968

Our hearts are broken. We are devastated to announce the untimely passing of John Hugh Cooke, our dear and cherished family member on Aug. 20, 2014.
Born Dec. 28, 1968 in Weston, Ont., John was the third born out of four children.
He was a cheery, bright and happy baby boy, characteristics that have remained with him throughout his life.
He was a quiet, private, unassuming gentleman with an infectious smile, loved by all.
John was an avid movie watcher and a faithful Toronto Maple Leafs fan, who enjoyed cooking, playing cards and as a hobby he especially loved to tinker with computers and new age electronics.
John was forever lending a helping hand to both his parents (whom he adored), whenever they needed a chore done that they could no longer tackle themselves.
Growing up, as a teenager, John started his employment in the company of his uncle 'Stuart', surveying. In his younger adult years he moved to Vancouver, B.C. eventually working as a line cook along side his uncle, 'Francis', whom he regarded highly.
He made many life long friends during his 10 year stay out west, but his heart yearned to be back home in Cape Breton amongst his cherished family members and friends, and so he has resided in Sydney for the past 17+ years until his passing.
Upon returning home John worked at the Eskasoni supermarket where he had the added pleasure of working alongside his father developing the trade of a 'meat cutter'.
This precious time in John's life became a remarkable bonding experience for both father and son, bringing them ever closer together.
John eventually moved on and became employed as a 'meat cutter' at the Sydney River Superstore location, a job he enjoyed immensely!
John dearly loved both his father and mother and though he had no children of his own he was incredibly fond and very proud of his many nieces and nephews.
John is survived by his parents, Norman Francis Cooke (Ellen MacDonald) and Heather Elizabeth Cooke-Joseph (Arnie Joseph); sister, Connie MacGibbon (Wayne); brothers, Jim and Steve Cooke and stepbrother, Kyle MacDonald; also survived by nieces and nephews, Ryan MacGibbon, Emma, Ethan Cooke, Alicia Parks-Cooke and Miranda Cooke.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, from 12-2 p.m at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, with a celebration of life to be held at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating.
