William Harding Reeves

Born In: Sydney

Passed in: Sydney
Passed on: August 22nd, 2014

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Bill Reeves. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Friday, Aug. 22, 2014.
Born and raised in Sydney, Bill was the son of the late George and Mildred (Mackley) Reeves. He went to school in Sydney and later joined the Canadian Armed Forces during the Second World War before attending Acadia University. He spent the bulk of his career working in the engineering section of Maritime Tel & Tel in Sydney, retiring after 33 years of dedicated service.
As a child, Bill spent summers with his family at their bungalow in Blackett’s Lake. In 1962, he became a permanent resident at the lake where he, along with his wife Mona, raised their two children.
Despite being a quiet, private man, Bill loved his time with family and friends. Family vacations were a priority when his children were young. Many were spent with his two brothers and their families, with whom he enjoyed close, lifelong relationships. In later years, he and Mona travelled together, spending several winters in Florida.
Bill loved all sports and he particularly enjoyed boating, swimming, skiing, bowling, baseball, hockey and golf. He was a past member of the Lingan and Seaview Golf Clubs and the Sydney Curling Club.
Bill was a member of Knox United Church in Blackett’s Lake. He was a man with strong values who lived by them. He treated people with respect and got it in return. He was a true gentleman who will be missed by all who knew him.
Bill is survived by his wife and best friend of 53 years, Mona (Pushie); son, Scott (Laurianne); daughter, Lee Anne (Serge); step-grandchild, Coralie Doiron; brothers, George, Kentville, N.S., Bob, Saint John, N.B., and their families. He will also be missed by his furry friends, Dawson, Nicky and Willis.
The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Greg Myatt, his staff Janice and Laura, Drs. George Burns and Ann Frances D’Intino, and the nursing staff in the Palliative Care Unit. Your commitment to Bill’s care and comfort is truly valued and will always be cherished.
A visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Tuesday, Aug. 26 at noon followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. A reception will take place after the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Alzheimer’s Society, the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or the Cape Breton Chapter of the VON.
