HURLBURT – Geraldine Velma – age 80, of Carleton, Yarmouth Co., N.S., passed away at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital on August 25, 2014. Born in Carleton on November 23, 1933 she was a daughter of the late David and Verna (Rogers) Richardson. Geraldine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother who loved her family dearly. She was a homemaker for most of her life and took great pride in raising her six daughters and one son. In her spare time she loved to garden and had a fondness for flowers and birds. She was known to have a passion for crosswords and making homemade bread, which was loved by all her family members. Geraldine is survived by, and will be greatly missed by daughters, Juanita (Reg) Graham, N.B.; Barb Bangay, Carleton; Charlene (Wayne) Tallaksen, Cape Cod, U.S.A; Cheryl Hurlburt (Alan), Kemptville; Wendy (Warren) Meuse, Carleton; Laura Hurlburt, Carleton; son, James (Debbie), Carleton; brother, Malcolm (Wilma) Richardson, Carleton; sister, Gail (Willy) Jack, Carleton; special cousin, Louise (George) Hurlburt; 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Rodney. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation was held Thursday, August 28, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service took place Friday, August 29, 2014 at 2:00pm in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Don Moses officiated. Interment followed in Carleton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Geraldine’s memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the Nova Scotia Alzheimer’s Society.
