John 'Bud' Barron, 88, passed away Aug. 28, 2014, at Highland Manor, Neils Harbour.
Born in Ingonish, he was the son of the late Michael and Priscilla (Donovan) Barron.
Bud was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by brothers Alex, Godfrey, Mike, Gerald and John and sisters, Frances, Mary, Theresa, Stella and Rita.
He is survived by sisters-in-law, Ella (Alex), Shirley (Mike) and Norma (Gerald). He also leaves behind special nephews, Bill (Muriel) Hawley and Cliff (Sharon) Robinson and nieces, Patsy (David) Barretto, Diane (Ken) Robinson, Fran (Ken) Robinson and many nieces and nephews.
Bud had a long career with the Department of Highways and was the Ingonish Harbour postmaster in earlier years.
He was a member of the Ingonish Beach AA Association and previously a 4th degree member of the KOC. He was a volunteer at St. Peter’s Parish Cemetery, and always willing to lend his garage, pit and tools to neighbours and friends. Bud’s greatest loves were his home, family, friends, religion and dogs. He was a proud man who enjoyed woodworking projects and sharing them with visitors. Growing up in an age of helping others, Bud was quick to lend a hand when it came to splitting wood, carpentry, or anything he could help with.
Cremation has taken place. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter’s Church on Wednesday, Sept. 3 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Lazarus Guria presiding. The church will be open for one hour before the mass.
A special thank you to the home support workers who helped Bud before leaving his home, the staff at Highland Manor for their care and kindness during his stay, and palliative care.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home Ingonish,
