HAWKINS, WILLIAM MAXWELL - William M. "Bill" Hawkins of Nackawic, NB passed away peacefully at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, NB on August 29, 2014. Bill was born at St. George, NB in 1927, a son of the late Raymond and Hazel (Maxwell) Hawkins of Pennfield, NB. Bill served his country in the 2nd. World War. He attended The Maritime Forest Ranger graduating in 1948. He first worked for Canadian International Paper (Woodlands Div.) in northern Quebec, then for Bathurst Paper Co., Bathurst, NB, finishing his forestry career with Valley Forest Products, Nackawic, NB. Being an avid hunter and fisherman, Bill was most comfortable in the woods. His best days were spent working as a guide for Willard Way at Charlie Lake Lodge. He had a passion for fly fishing and spent countless hours on the Nashwaak, St. John and Miramichi rivers. He also thoroughly enjoyed his trips to the camp with "the boys", whether hunting, snowmobiling or just cooking for them. Bill was a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shrine. He was a great community supporter and was often seen at local events. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy J. (Armstrong) Hawkins; three daughters, Judy Morris (Jim), Kelowna, BC, Susan Sansom, Fredericton, NB and Joan Holmes (John), Boise, Idaho. He was proud grandfather to Jim Moris (Debbie), Surrey, BC, Elaine Morris (Dimo), Vancouver, BC, Nicole Dawson (Matt), Kanata, ON, Megan St. Pierre (Karl), Richmond, ON, Ryan Holmes, Boise, ID and Ashley Holmes, Boise, ID. Also dear to his heart, his six great grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Jacob Morris, Will and Ruby Dawson, Simon and Zoe St. Pierre. Bill is also survived by a sister, Mary Wilcox (Burt), Summerside, PE and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Robert.
Visiting hours will be held at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic, NB on Thursday, September 4, 2014 from 5 to 8 p.m. A Masonic Service will be held at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 5, 2014 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with The Rev. Fr. Kevin Borthwick officiating. A reception will follow at the funeral home. Interment will take place at a later date at Pennfield, NB. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim McDermott, Gene Hill, Lloyd Robertson, Ed Dickinson, Earl Scott, John Burkhart and Danny Cakes.
