Jean Snow

SNOW, JEAN TOOKER (MATTHEWS) - Jean Tooker (Matthews) Snow, of Fredericton, passed away peacefully, at the age of 107, on August 29, 2014. She was predeceased by her husband of 69 years Eric Snow (Brigadier, Ret.), sons David Snow and Michael Snow, and a sister Elinor MacDougall (Lorne). She is survived by three grandchildren: Timothy Snow (Kathleen) of Fredericton, Wendy Smith (Stephen) of San Diego CA, and Christopher Snow of Irvine CA; as well as four great-grandchildren: Eric Snow (Calgary), David Snow (Halifax), Timothy Snow Jr. (Fredericton) and Oliver Snow (Mount Currie, BC); and two nieces: Jill Humphries (Toronto) and Barbara Lohnes (Enfield, NS). Jean was born on November 10, 1906 in Weymouth, NS. She grew up in Saint John where she attended Victoria School and Saint John High School. While working for the Telegraph-Journal, she met her future husband, Eric Snow, an officer with the RCR. Following Eric’s retirement, they continued to play an active role role in the RCR, which she proudly considered her “military family.” She was especially appreciative of her time at Windsor Court, where she has resided for the past 26 years. Her family extends their gratitude to the staff and management of Windsor Court for the genuine affection and exceptional service which they extended to her over the years. The family is grateful for the care extended to Jean during her time at the Chalmers hospital by Dr. Burton, Dr. Srinivasan, Dr. Gowan and the staff of 4NE and 3E.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Church Cathedral on Friday, September 5th, 2014 at 2:00 PM with Archdeacon Geoffrey Hall and The Rt. Rev. William Hockin officiating. A private committal service will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Fredericton Community Kitchen or the Salvation Army would be appreciated. Online condolences can be made at www.mcadamsfh.com. A lively spirit, set free and never to be forgotten.
