t is with great sadness that we, the family, of Douglas “Dougie” Beresford announce his passing on Sept. 4, 2014, surrounded by family.
Born Feb. 20, 1929, he was a long-time resident of Wallace Road, Glace Bay.
Dougie spent his working career as a coal miner where he perfected his storytelling abilities. Coal mining was a job he took great pride in and a job where he made many lifetime friends, all of whom he spoke highly. In his free time he spent many hours in the barn with the animals, where he found great joy. In Dougie’s later years, he treasured his trips to Tim Hortons with brother-in-law Murray. Dougie also enjoyed sports both nationally and locally, never missing a Blue Jays game or Vince Ryan game. Above all Dougie had two favourite spots, one was on his front step waving to every car that beeped to him and of course surrounded by family.
Dougie is survived by children Bobby, Glace Bay, Dave, Sydney, Wayne (Susan) Alberta, Marlene (George) Ross’ Ferry, Billy (Wendy) Glace Bay; grandchildren Dawn (Peter), James, Angie, Shannon (Lilly), Michael, Gil, Hudson, Jillien (Craig), Alex, Jeff (Shirlene), Jenn (Greg); many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by the love of his life Roberta Beresford; two children in infancy.
Visitation will take place on Monday, September 8 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 2 p.m. at the Salvation Army Citadel, Union Street, Glace Bay.
