Passed in: Port Caledonia
Passed on: September 4th, 2014

It is with great sadness that we; the family of Ronald 'Ronnie' William Dearn, announce his sudden passing on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014, at the age of 56 years at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay and lifelong resident of Port Caledonia, he was the son of and Alice (Prendergast) Dearn and the late William Dearn.
Ronnie graduated from Donkin-Morien High School in 1976 and was employed as a coal miner for 16 years with Devco, while pursuing his entrepreneurial ambitions. In 1992, he started an oil business and in 1995 built a gas bar and convenience store, continuing a family tradition at Dearn’s Corner.
Troubled with physical disabilities from a young age, he never complained and saw his dreams realized through hard work, adversity and a “can do” attitude. Ronnie loved his community and was willing to help anyone. He was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge in The Thistle Lodge #36, Port Morien.
He will be sadly missed by his mother Alice, his wife Shirley Livingstone, sons, Justin (Gail), Adam (Shantelle) and stepdaughter, Carrie Livingstone. Also surviving is his sister, Susan (Terry) Howie and brothers, Robert (Rhodena) and Glen (Nancy), nieces, Alison (Jason) Pearson, Morgan and nephews, Andrew (Katie) Howie, Kyle (Kristyn), Michael (Rebecca), Jared and his special grandchildren, Bella Rae and his “wee man”, Caiden Dearn.
In keeping with Ronnie’s wishes; there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay.
A funeral mass will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Port Morien on Tuesday at 2 p.m. The Masonic Lodge will hold a service at 1:45 p.m. before the mass begins.
A tea and celebration of Ronnie’s life will follow at Port Morien fire hall.
