SMITH, GORDON CRANDALL "BUD" - 1927 - 2014 - Gordon Crandall "Bud" Smith, 86, of Forest Dale Home passed away peacefully on September 7th, 2014 at the nursing home. Gordon "Bud" was born in Riverside on November 20, 1927. He was the son of the late Crandall and Hazel (Alward) Smith and grew up in Riverside - Albert. He received his teaching certificate from the Provincial Normal School in Fredericton and taught in Alma, Harvey, Minto, and Germantown. Gordon worked at Canada Post in Moncton until his retirement. In his youth his was an avid sportsman and played baseball and hockey and enjoyed watching both until he passed. He and Doris, his wife for over 50 years, spent many weeks each year at their cottage in Alma, walking the trails and going for long drives. They also took a number of bus tours and train trips to various tourist locations in Canada and U.S. including Nashville and Graceland. They both called the Forest Dale Nursing Home in Riverside-Albert their home starting in 2003. He is survived by his sisters Irma Nelson, Windsor, NS, Louise Prosser, Moncton, brother Carl Smith (Joan), Oakville, ON, and by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife Doris, who died in 2008, he was predeceased by an infant brother Gerald and by brothers-in-law Maurice Nelson and Elmer Prosser.
Visitation will be held at the Albert County Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 9, from 7 to 8:30 pm. Funeral service from the funeral home Wednesday, September 10, at 2 pm with Rev. Carol Mullin officiating. Interment at the Alma United Cemetery. Family flowers only please, Charitable donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Forest Dale Nursing Home Van Fund.
