BARKER, KEVIN JAMES - The passing of Kevin James Barker of Fredericton, NB occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on September 13, 2014, at the age of 76. Born in Deer Lake, NL, he was the son of the late Peter and Annie (Hinks) Barker. Kevin is survived by his brothers Robert (Dianna) of Victoria, BC; Bill of Vancouver, BC; Thomas (Myra) of Deer Lake, NL, Peter (Mary Cooper) of Benoits Cove, NL and Alfred (Sheila), Jude (Janet), Gerard (Mary) of Fredericton, NB and three sisters Loretta Leroux (Kevin), Maureen Young (Roddy) of Deer Lake, NL and Mary Hynes (Tom) of Port-au-Port Peninsula, NL as well as several nieces and nephews. Kevin had a special place in his heart for his niece Delores. Kevin was predeceased by his parents; sister, Sandra and his brothers, Edward and Aloysious; and sister-in-law Dorothy. Kevin worked in the woods in his early years and enjoyed the outdoors. In his later years he took great pride in assisting with the upkeep of the building and grounds where he resided for 27 years on Neill Street. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Oncology Unit, 3SW and his family physician Dr. Brian MacKinnon and his staff for their excellent care and compassion during this time.
Visitations will be held at the Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road on Wednesday, September 17th from 12 noon to 2 PM followed by a funeral service officiated by Rev. Monte Peters. Interment will be held in the Hermitage Cemetery. For those who wish, donations in memory of Kevin may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Epilepsy Foundation.
