MacKinnon, Loreta Mae “Reta” – Willow Lodge Home for Special Care, Tatamagouche and formerly of Brule, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2014 in the Lodge. Born in Keble, she was the daughter of the late Owen and Edith (Tattrie) Mingo. Reta was a graduate of the Provincial Normal College and taught for more than thirty years in the public school system of Nova Scotia. Reta was vitally interested in the progress of her students, a loyal and devoted mother to her three children, as well as a loving and caring grandmother to her six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She attended Church at Brule Union Church with her husband, Otis and family. In 1994 she moved to Tatamagouche and attended Church at Sharon United Church. She was a Life Member and Past Matron of Atlantic Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Tatamagouche and Past Grand of Freedom Rebekah Lodge in Tatamagouche. She was a member of the Seniors Associations in Tatamagouche, the UCW in Brule and Tatamagouche and a member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 64 in Tatamagouche and was very active in these organizations. Surviving are, daughter, Lorraine (Royden) Wilson, Ontario; son, Bill, Fort Lauderdale, Florida; grandchildren , Shelley (Don) MacLanders, Sharon (Gary) Hamer, Steeve Bryden, Cheryl (Gord) Steele, Tanya (Robert) MacKenzie; step-grandson, Bradley (Kerri) Wilson; eleven great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by husband, Otis; daughter, Carol Anne; brothers, Clair, Russell, Ronald, Clayton; sister, Hazel Weatherby. No visitation by request. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, September 18, 2014 in Coulter’s Funeral Home, (657-3288) 48 Riverside Drive, Tatamagouche, Rev. Penny Nelson officiating. Interment will be in Lockerby Memorial Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to any charity.
