It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Elizabeth MacNeil, age 101, on Sept. 14, 2014, surrounded by her family and friends, at MacGillivray Guest Home.
Born in St. Margaret's Village, Victoria County on Sept. 14, 1913, she was the daughter of the late John Edward and Mary MacNeil.
She loved picking berries and knitting. She was an excellent cook and loved to prepare meals for company.
She enjoyed weaving for Normaway Handcrafts and also at the museum at Cape North. She also attended many weaving seminars at the Gaelic College. She loved to play cards and was involved with Club 55 in Dingwall. She also worked at the Co-op, St. Margaret's Village.
She was a 50 year member of the CWL in St. Margaret's Village.
She is survived by her son, Michael; daughter, Carol; grandchildren, Scott and Shauna Gouthro and great granddaughter, Makayla Taylor; brother, Leo Mac Neil in Ontario and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joe Alex; sister, Anne Coones; brothers, Dan MacNeil, George MacNeil and Jim MacNeil; a brother in infancy and daughter-in-law, Charlotte (Curtis) MacNeil.
Thank you to Dr. Paul Murphy for his care of our mother over the years.
A very special thank you to the staff of MacGillivray Guest Home for their care of our mother over the last seven years. Their care was second to none, to say the least.
Very special thank you to everyone who sat with us over the last three days when mom was so low. You have no idea how much your company was appreciated and a special thank you to Mary Effie MacKinnon, who came to the home on her day off and stayed with us until mom passed.
Family flowers only. Donations can be made to the MacGillivray Guest Home, Cemetery Fund -St. Margaret's Village.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 19, 2014 from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. with the mass to follow at 2 p.m. in St. Margaret’s Parish, St. Margaret’s Village. Interment to follow in church cemetery.
