Ida Mary Pierro, 52, of Wagmatcook, N.S., passed away on Sept. 17, 2014 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Baddeck on Aug. 6, 1962. She was the daughter of the late Roderick Pierro and Mary Theresa (Isadore) Pierro.
Ida was known for her kindness to others and her unforgettable lovable smile that made others around her smile. She enjoyed her love of knitting, drawing and colouring. She also enjoyed outings with her friends. She loved her Mikmaw language and never lost her language and spoke it with pride. Special thanks to her friend Annie Marie. Her laughter, great company and entertaining ways were enjoyed by family and friends, Ida was loved by so many people who were lucky to have been a part of her life.
She is survived by brothers, Kenny, Wagmatcook, Patrick and Clifford, both of Halifax, sisters, Wanda, Waycobah, Karen, Wagmatcook, Lora, Orillia, Ontario, godfather Charles Googoo, uncle Francis (Babe) Pierro (Anna K.), Wagmatcook, aunts Mary Victoria Googoo, Waycobah, and Kathleen Pierro, Wagmatcook. Special little niece, Payson to whom she sang songs with during every visit. She will be missed by her brothers, sisters, aunts, uncle, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who adored her wonderful pleasant nature. She will forever be remembered by all.
Besides her parents, Ida was predeceased by her brothers, Melvin and Edward Pierro; sisters, Alice (Pierro) Paul and Mary Theresa Pierro and Godmother, Mary Janet Isadore.
The family would like to thank each and every one at the Independent Living Home in Reserve Mines for their loving care of Ida, for the duration of her stay and also her friends Annie Marie, Bobby and Patrick. Special thanks to the staff of doctors and nurses at the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital where Ida spent her last weeks. Also grateful thanks to Alena Usher who provided meals and accommodations to family during the time family spent with Ida in the hospital.
Visitation for Ida Pierro will be held at Blessed (Saint) Kateri Tekawitha, Queen of the World Parish, Wagmatcook, on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014 starting at 2 p.m. The funeral services will also be held at Blessed (Saint) Kateri Tekawitha, Queen of the World Parish on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014 at 11 a.m., with Fr. Paul Abbass officiating. Burial will follow at the Queen of the World Cemetery. Meal and salite at Wagmatcook Cultural Heritage Centre.
