Marion Gogan

GOGAN, MARION - The family of Marion Elizabeth (nee Steeves) Gogan, announce with sadness, the death of their sister and aunt on September 22, 2014, at the age of 97. Marion was born on July 22, 1917 in Rosevale, Albert County, daughter of Franklin Frederick Steeves and Clara Isabell (nee Berry) Steeves. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Albert Gogan of Petitcodiac, in 1993 after 54 years of marriage. Marion became a member of the Petitcodiac Baptist Church in 1939 and had been active in her missionary work until a few years ago when health started to fail her. She was a youth leader and counselor in Explorers, C.G.I.T and Sunday School for over 48 years. As well, she and Ralph were custodians of the church for 21 years. Marion worked in the community doing house work and sewing for many families. Being a creative person, she enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting, crocheting and Bible study. Her attitude to work was summed up in Colossians 3: “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” Marion is survived by her sisters: Alvilda Miller (late Talmage) of Sydney, NS and Kathleen Smith (James R.) of Lower Coverdale, NB; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews. Marion’s eldest niece was home to visit her this past summer. Besides her parents and husband, Marion was predeceased by her brother Arthur in 1977; her sisters-in-law Laura Lewis in 2012 and Helen Steeves in 2014; her special nephew Dr. Bert Miller of Sydney, NS in 2008 and niece Peggy Harris in 2014.
Arrangements are in the professional care of Armstrong’s Funeral Home, 33 Russell Street, Petitcodiac, from where visitation will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2014 from 6 to 8 pm. The funeral service will be held at the Petitcodiac Baptist Church on Friday, September 26 at 11:00 am with Rev. David Woodworth and Rev. Rick Thomas presiding. The interment will be held at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens. Donations to CNIB or the Petitcodiac Baptist Church Building Fund would be appreciated by the family.
