Virginia Tremaine Kinsman

Kinsman, Virginia Tremaine, Truro, NS, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2014 at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, with family at her side. Born March 9, 1931, in Summerside, PEI, she was the eldest daughter of the late Chief Justice Thane Alexander and Cecilia (Bradshaw) Campbell. She attended school in Summerside, Prince of Wales College, Charlottetown, and in 1952 graduated from Acadia University with a BSc. in Home Economics Education. She worked with the NS Department of Agriculture and Marketing for several years as an Extension Home Economist in Pictou, Annapolis and Kings Counties. After taking time to raise a family she taught at the Nova Scotia Teachers College and the former Institute for Early Childhood Education. Virginia enjoyed a wide range of interests including genealogy, she served as a Board member for the former Family Support Centre, Truro, volunteered with the Arthritis Society and was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, Truro, and the Westmount Park Garden Club. Music was a love of hers. She played violin with the Queens County (PEI) Fiddlers and was a violinist and Charter Member of The Caledonian Orchestra of Nova Scotia. In recent years she helped start a ukulele group at Parkland Retirement Home, Truro. She especially enjoyed spending summers with family and friends at her cottage in Stanley Bridge, PEI. Virginia is survived by her sons and their families. Brian (Jane), Truro, NS, and their children Sarah (Mike) Muise, Diane, Greg (Natalie) and their son Anderson, and Andrew (Danielle); Neil (Mary), Charlottetown, PEI, and their daughters Erin and Kate; Roger (Leanna), Charlton Place, Ont., and their children Emma and Simon; and Laurie (Kim), North Delta, BC., and their son Campbell. Also surviving are her brother, the Hon. Alexander B. Campbell (Marilyn), Stanley Bridge, PEI., her sister Harriet (Michael) Meacher, Charlottetown, PEI., sister-in-law Mary (Melville) Campbell, Summerside, PEI., sister-in-law Barbara (Gerald) Kinsman, Ottawa, Ont., and sister-in-law Edith (Eric) Kinsman, New York, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 45 years Gordon Barss Kinsman in 1999, her brother James Melville Campbell in 1992, brothers-in-law Gerald Kinsman and Eric Kinsman, and brother and sister-in-law Arnold and Eleanor (Kinsman) Veague. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 6:30 – 8:30 PM on Friday September 26th in Memorial Hall, First Baptist Church, 759 Prince Street, Truro. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 27th at 2 PM also from First Baptist Church, the Rev. Dr. Michael McDonald and Rev. Paul Worden officiating. A reception will follow in Fellowship Hall, First Baptist Church. Burial in Bible Hill Cemetery will follow the reception. In lieu of flowers, a donation to First Baptist Church, the VON, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, Truro.
