Kathleen Shiers

Passed in: Windsor, Canada
Passed on: September 21st, 2014

Shiers, Kathleen "Duds" (Chambers) – age 93, of Three Mile Plains, died Sunday, Sept. 21 at Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. After telling her daughter not to worry, she would be fine - a reassurance that will surprise no one who knew her - she slipped into unconsciousness as her niece sang her favourite hymn. She spent the last hours of her life with family by her side, including her dearest friend, and was surrounded by love. Born in Windsor, she was a daughter of the late Eardley and Elizabeth (Chambers) Chambers. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mom's love of Tom, her husband of almost 75 years, and their family came first. Her children grew up in a home that always smelled of fresh bread and pies baking in the oven. She liked nothing better than her house full of people and cooking huge Sunday dinners with everyone at home. There was always room for one more at the table and one more to stay overnight (or even move in). Mom loved all music, but her favourite singers were the ones she was related to. She was always so happy when her nieces came to visit and brought their guitars. She was a beautiful dancer. One good song on the radio or record on the stereo was all it took to start a dance in the kitchen and any kids who were around would line up to be her partner. At the age of 84, Mom insisted on starting a full-time job, coming to work before 6 a.m. to look after her youngest grandson. From her, he learned the fine art of snowman making and shaping Play Doh creatures and - like the eight grandchildren before him - unconditional love. All of her grandchildren will carry special memories of her. Mom paid attention to details. From her perfectly styled hair and the prize-winning stitches in the clothes she made us to the precise way she cut her pies into six equal pieces to avoid any complaints that someone got a bigger slice. She was a lifelong member of St. Thomas Anglican Church and its guild. Disease may have begun to cloud her mind, but Mom never forgot how to pray. We are grateful to everyone who helped make her most fervent wish possible - that she stay with Dad in their home, until the very end. Mom is survived by her husband, Thomas (Tom), Three Mile Plains; son, William (Bill) and his wife Sandy, Moose Jaw, Sask.; daughter, Kelly Shiers, Three Mile Plains; grandchildren, David Shiers, Edmonton, Alta.; Stephen Shiers, Springhill; Billy Shiers, Jacksonville, Fla.; Mark Shiers (Cheryl), Brett Shiers, Crystal Froese (Kirby), Christine Shiers Marasse (Todd), all of Moose Jaw, Sask.; LoAnne Shiers Smith (Sandy), Elk Point, Alta.; Kyle Williamson, Three Mile Plains; great-grandchildren, Kanon, Maddison, Makailah, Makencie, Emily, Abby, Katy, Ella; sister-in-law, Edna Chambers, Falmouth; brother-in-law, Owen Shiers (Jessie), Tonge Hill; several generations of nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by son, Thomas (Tommy); grandson, Michael Williamson; sisters, Mildred Fogarty, Dorothy Caldwell, Florence Collins, Evelyn Anthony, Sally Wells, Margaret in infancy; brothers, Robert and William.
