Hutchinson, William Graham “Bill”
Age 60 of Newport Corner, passed away September 29, 2014 at home. He was the son of Vivian Emily (McKim) Hutchinson, Amherst and the late Graham Robert Hutchinson. He is survived by his wife Gloria (MacPherson) Hutchinson; they have been together for 43 years; sister, Holly Hutchinson (Craig Burke) Fenwick; sister, Sylvia Henne (Dieter), Midland, Ontario. Bill was a graduate of Amherst Regional High. He started his radio career in his mid-teens, working on the Border Show with Fred Arenburg at CKDH radio in Amherst. This turned into a full-time position at CKDH where he was known as “Sweet William” by his friends. In September 1977, Bill left to accept a position at CJCH in Halifax. He worked “on air” as music director and track announcer at Atlantic Speedway race track in Lucasville, later moving into radio sales where he spent the next 32 years doing what he loved most, meeting people and talking about radio. Bill received various sales and DMB&B awards during this time, retiring in 2013. Bill loved rock music, walking the sand flats on the Strait and the trails at both Oakfield and Laurie Parks. There were many favorite “fur kids” in Bill’s life: Tabby, Buddy, Angel, Bonnie, Cayenne, Dodger, Sophie and Jack. A memorial service will be 11 am Saturday October 4, 2014 in Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St. Halifax. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
