Blair David McNamara, 70, of Evanston, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston.
Born in Evanston, he was a son of the late Leo David and Catherine 'Katie' McNamara. Blair was retired from Stora Forest Industries where he worked as an electrician for 37 years. Active in the community, Blair was viewed as the go-to individual and the necessary glue that kept the fabric of Riverdale Community Center strong and vibrant. Blair was the violin component of The McNamara Band, entertaining people all over the Strait Area for many years. His family’s gift of music brought joy and happiness to friends, near and far.
He is survived by his wife, Jean (Gerrior); sons, Bradley (Arlene), Beaverbank; Chad (Tanya), Hammonds Plains; Travis (Angela), Halifax; sisters, Dorothy Jean MacDonald, St. Margaret’s Bay; Darlene (Junior) Martell, Port Hawkesbury; Sharon Ann (Edward) Sampson, Evanston; brothers, Terry (Mary) and Wayne (Anne) both of Evanston; Carl (Eileen), Whiteside; Gary (Debbie), Halifax ; grandchildren, Brennon, Keegan, Ashton, Calum, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Blair was predeceased by his sister, Patsy Dorey and brother, Ernest in infancy.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 8 from 2-9 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 724 Granville St., Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, from St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church, Lower River Inhabitants with Fr. Callistus Abazie officiating. Burial in St. Patrick's Parish Cemetery, Whiteside.
